K–2 | Fridays, June 16, 23, July 7, 14, 21, 28, August 4, 11, 18 | 1 – 2:15pm
Artschooled is a program where children can create projects inspired by art currently on view at the Tampa Museum of Art. Projects are designed for children in grades K-5. All materials provided.
June 16: Sparkling Creativity: Sequined Abstract Paintings inspired by KACE
Students will explore the abstract painting style of KACE (Naeem Khan and Stanley Casselman), with a focus on the use of sequined flowers. Using KACE's work as inspiration, students will create their own abstract painting with sequined flowers on canvas.
June 23: Daisy Patton Inspired Embellished Photographs
Using vintage photographs of Tampa Bay, students will mount them on canvas and unleash their creativity with various art materials such as paint, stickers, and mixed media. They will learn about Daisy Patton's artistic process and how she uses embellishments to create depth, contrast, and meaning in her artwork.
July 7: Mosaic Madness: Ai Weiwei Style LEGO Art
Using LEGO bricks, students will create their own interpretation of Ai Weiwei's Dropping A Han Dynasty Urn (LEGO) artwork alongside their personal image, which encourages the idea of breaking with tradition and challenging established norms.
July 14: Colorful Creations: Exploring Haitian Art
Vodou flags are beautiful and intricately designed artworks that are an important part of Haitian Vodou culture. Through studying the flags in the exhibit, students will learn about the significance of different symbols, colors, and patterns in Vodou culture, and how they are used to represent different spiritual entities.
Using a variety of art materials, students will create their own personal flag, exploring the use of color, texture, and symbolism. They will experiment with different techniques and approaches, such as applique and embroidery, to create a unique and meaningful piece.
July 21: Exploring Light and Color in Frontiers of Impressionism
Impressionism was a movement that challenged traditional techniques and subject matter, and introduced a new way of looking at the world. Through studying the paintings of the Frontiers of Impressionism exhibit, students will learn about the artists who pushed the boundaries of the art world and created stunning works that captured the essence of light, color, and movement.
Using a variety of art materials, students will create their own impressionist masterpiece, exploring the use of color, light, and texture.
July 28: Magical Transformations: Mixed-Media Collages inspired by the art of Pepe Mar
Join us for an exciting art class based on the exhibition Pepe Mar: Myth and Magic at the Tampa Museum of Art!
In this project, K-5 students will explore the vibrant world of Pepe Mar, using his work as inspiration to create their own unique mixed-media collages.
August 4: Lighting up Creativity: Digital Art Inspired by Jennifer Steinkamp
Jennifer Steinkamp's Madame Curie installation is a stunning display of moving lights and shapes that transform the museum space into a mesmerizing environment. Students will learn about the installation and the inspiration behind it, and will use it as a launching point to create their own digital artwork.
Using a tablet and digital art software, students will experiment with different shapes, colors, and movements to create their own unique digital artwork. They will learn about the elements of art, such as line, shape, color, and texture, and will explore how these elements can be used to create rhythm and movement in their artwork.
August 11: Discover Additive Sculpture: Thick Skinned Style
Students in grades K-5 will have the opportunity to create their own mixed media sculpture that explores the theme of strength and resilience.
During this class, students will be introduced to additive sculpture techniques and will learn about the process used by Rune Olsen to create his masterpiece. They will learn how to use everyday materials such as newspaper, acrylic medium, and archival tape to create a unique and stunning sculpture that is full of texture and dimension.
August 18: Radial Re-imagining: inspired by Willie Cole’s Sunflower
Join TMA Studio for an exciting art-venture in Radial Re-imagining: inspired by Willie Cole's Sunflower!
K-5 students will explore the concept of radial symmetry in Willie Cole's Sunflower artwork on view at Tampa Museum of Art by using ordinary objects to create multiple impressions and patterns.
